Decision to reopen Asia's largest opium factory in Lahore

Lahore: The caretaker Punjab government has decided to reopen Asia’s largest opium factory in Lahore.

According to Express News, the Department of Excise and Taxation Punjab has decided to reopen Asia’s largest opium factory in Shadman, Lahore, which was closed 13 years ago.

According to the department, the administrative affairs of the factory will be with the Excise and Taxation and the Excise and Taxation officer will run the factory as a manager. Opium will be obtained from the anti-narcotics control agencies of different provinces to run the factory. The first batch of 640 kg will be received soon.

According to the Excise and Taxation Department, opium of category A will be provided to pharmaceutical companies at market rates, opium of category B is harmful to health and will be destroyed.
