May 9 events;  Details of accused arrested in Punjab submitted to Supreme Court

Islamabad: The Punjab government has submitted the data of the detained suspects involved in the May 9 incidents to the Supreme Court.

Advocate General Punjab submitted a report in the Supreme Court which does not include the data of the accused in the custody of the army while the report does not include the data of minor children, journalists and lawyers.

Data on women in May 9 incidents was also submitted. 81 women were arrested from Punjab, 42 were granted bail while 39 were sent to jail on judicial remand.

According to the report, arrest orders were issued for 2258 people under MPO, while 3050 people were found involved in the incidents of vandalism on May 9. Currently, 21 people are in jail under MPO.

Under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 51 cases were registered against the accused involved in the incidents of May 9. 1888 persons were arrested under Anti-Terrorism Act, 108 accused are on physical remand and 1247 are on judicial remand.

Under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 33 people were identified and released while 500 people were declared innocent, 232 people were released on bail under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the report, 247 cases were registered under other laws against the suspects involved in the May 9 incidents, 4119 people were arrested under 247 cases. 86 accused were sent to physical remand and 2464 were sent to judicial remand, 368 people were identified in other cases.

So far 1201 persons have been acquitted, 3012 persons were released on bail in various cases.
