Measures to protect animals from heat in Lahore Zoo

Lahore: After the increase in heat intensity, measures have been started to protect wild animals and birds from the effects of weather in other wildlife parks and zoos including Lahore Zoo.

Due to the increase in temperature, significant changes have been made in the food and habitat of the animals of Lahore Zoo which belong to cold regions and cannot tolerate heat.

According to the Deputy Director of Lahore Zoo, Kiran Saleem, air coolers have been installed in the cages of tigers, tigers and llamas, and ice is also being kept daily to keep the temperature of their cages low.

Similarly, ice is being kept in the cages of felodier and red deer and water showers have also been installed in their enclosures. Green cloths have been placed in front of the cages of other animals and birds and their food has also been significantly changed.

In other zoos of the province including Lahore Safari Zoo, Bahawalpur Zoo, Jalusafari Zoo, Faisalabad Zoo, special measures have been taken to protect animals and birds from the effects of weather.

According to zookeepers, the cost of food for animals and birds increases in summer, while the number of visitors decreases significantly.

Veterinary Officer Dr. Rizwan said that apart from providing fresh water to animals and birds, vitamins are given to them to increase their immunity. Some animals are also given glucose, many seasonal fruits are also included in their diet and their cages are sprinkled with water twice a day.

Meanwhile, another baby of a rare breed of red deer has been born in Lahore Zoo, which has increased the number of these deer in the zoo to 6. There are two pairs of rare red deer in Lahore Zoo. A couple of them had a baby here a few days ago.

Yesterday, the second pair also gave birth to a baby, making the total number of these deer to 6. According to the zoo management, the baby deer are quite healthy.
