The caretaker governor of the Afghan Central Bank discussed banking and business relations in a meeting with the Chinese ambassador.
Bank spokesman Haseebullah Noori told the news agency that the meeting took place between Ambassador Weng Yu in Kabul and Caretaker Governor Afghan Central Bank Mulla Hidayatullah Badri.
Afghanistan’s banking system is badly affected by global sanctions.
China does not have formal diplomatic relations with Afghanistan but has an embassy in Kabul.
Beijing has recently shown its economic interest in the neighboring country, although Chinese business figures have expressed security concerns but said they see other investment opportunities, including mining.
It should be noted that Mullah Hidayatullah Badri is a senior Taliban leader, he resigned from the position of Caretaker Finance Minister in March after which he was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank.
He managed most of the funding operations of the Taliban during the ongoing 20-year war against the US and NATO forces.
