Karachi: The Sindh High Court has ordered to hand over all the arrested PTI UC chairmen to the City Council in the election of Mayor Karachi.
In front of a two-member bench consisting of Justice Yusuf Ali Saeed and Justice Muhammad Abdul Rahman, a hearing was held on Jamaat-e-Islami’s request to prevent the elected UC chairmen from participating in the election of Mayor Karachi, in which Saifuddin Advocate and Usman Farooq advocate appeared.
During the hearing, the police and the Sindh government presented the list of 4 arrested UC chairmen. According to the report, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Omar Daraz, Syed Amjad and Muhammad Mustafa are arrested in various cases. Firdous Shamim Naqvi is undergoing treatment at NICVD Sukkur. The Sindh government apologized for sending all the elected representatives to the city council. Advocate General Sindh took the stand that we cannot take the responsibility of delivering all the selected persons.
The lawyer of Jamaat-e-Islami took the position that a UC chairman has been arrested 2 days ago. The court remarked to present a separate description of the UC chairmen who have just been arrested. Election Commission is responsible, what is it doing?
The lawyer of the Election Commission stated that the Election Commission has a clear directive to allow the elected representatives to participate in the election process.
Advocate General Sindh said that we take the responsibility of bringing the arrested elected representatives to the relevant forum on the election day, we are not responsible for the participation of the representatives who are not arrested. The police harassed the elected representatives. Elected representatives of PTI are being prevented from participating in mayoral and township elections. The court should order to ensure the participation of all elected representatives.
Advocate General Sindh said that Jamaat-e-Islami does not have the required number, so false allegations are being made, to which the lawyer of Jamaat-e-Islami said that the People’s Party is using the administrative machinery because it is afraid of defeat.
Later, the court ordered to ensure the participation of all the elected representatives in the election of Mayor Karachi. The court remarked that the Sindh government should deliver the arrested elected representatives to the City Council under security. According to the instructions of the Election Commission, all elected representatives should be ensured to participate in the mayoral and town elections. The court ordered all the arrested PTI UC chairmen to be brought to the city council for the mayoral election.
