Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India sign gas pipeline joint project

Islamabad: Pakistan and Turkmenistan have signed a joint project to implement the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.

According to the national news agency ‘APP’, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the delegation of Turkmenistan led by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources participated in the ceremony in Islamabad.

Minister of State for Petroleum Mossadegh Malik and Minister of State of Turkmenistan and Chairman of Turkmen Gas Muscat Babayev signed the agreement.

The 1,800 km long pipeline is expected to transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan to India every year. The line will pass through Herat and Kandahar in Afghanistan and Quetta and Multan in Pakistan.

The estimated cost of the first phase of the project is $5-6 billion, while the second phase will be the installation of compressor stations, which will cost $1.9 billion.

Speaking on the occasion today, Prime Minister Shehbaz termed TAPI as a very important project for the development of the entire region, adding that it will provide the region with concrete assurances and mutually agreed terms and conditions in the protection of natural gas. Will help with.
