Lahore: In the High Court, the application to stop the caretaker Punjab government from working was accepted for hearing.
The court issued notices to other parties including the federal government and the Election Commission.
The court inquired that if elections are not held in 90 days, what will be the future of caretaker government? Lawyer Azhar Siddique said that if the election is not held in 90 days, the caretaker government will end by itself and Parvez Elahi will be reinstated as the Chief Minister.
During the hearing, the Assistant Advocate General objected to the request, upon which Justice Shahid Karim asked the lawyer of the Punjab government, who are you? The Assistant Advocate General replied that I am the representative of the Punjab Government and Justice Raza Qureshi has dismissed such a request.
Justice Shahid Karim remarked that the court is not taking notice of the caretaker government and the court is looking into the matter constitutionally.
It should be noted that Sheikh Rasheed filed an application through his lawyer Azhar Siddiq Advocate in which he stated that the 90 days period of the caretaker government has been completed and constitutionally the caretaker government can no longer work.
In the petition, it was requested that the court order to stop the caretaker government from working.
