Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashpal Benam on Saturday annulled his daughter’s marriage to a Muslim boy in Pauri Garhwal in the Indian state of Uttarakhand with the mutual consent of the groom’s family.
It is said that this was done when the wedding invitation card went viral on social media and resulted in a controversy.
In this regard, Yashpal Benam said while talking to the media on Saturday that the marriage was arranged with the consent of both the families, but it was canceled after some issues came to light.
He further said that I do not want my daughter’s marriage to be under the protection of police and administration, I respect public sentiments. The wedding ceremony was to be held on May 28.
