Pakistan Bar Council announced a strike against the decision to form an 8-member bench against the Supreme Court Bill

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has announced a strike today against the decision to form an 8-member bench against the Supreme Court Bill.

Talking to Geo News, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bar Council Hasan Raza Pasha has said that the Supreme Court Bill was an old demand of the Bar Councils across the country, the lawyers are in favor of the Parliament Bill.

He said that on the issue of Article 63A of the Constitution regarding not giving the right to vote to 25 members of the Punjab Assembly, we had demanded to form a full court bench but it was not formed. Everyone said that the constitution was rewritten in this decision.

Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Hasan Raza Pasha said that a bench consisting of 8 senior judges of the Supreme Court would have heard.

Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Haroon Al Rasheed said that a bench consisting of judges has been formed, senior judges should also be involved in the hearing of the case.

Former President of the Supreme Court Bar Ahsan Bhavan says that a bench consisting of 8 senior judges should be formed, it seems that the supremacy of the Parliament is being suppressed.

Ahsan Bhavan said that it seems that the way is being paved for undemocratic forces, the formation of this bench is wrong, it has not become law yet.

He further said that the process of division among judges has come to light, efforts are being made to restrict the rights of lawyers.

It should be noted that in the joint session of the Parliament on April 10, Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazir Tarar presented the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill, which was approved by majority vote, however, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) himself noticed. The petitions against the Powers Amendment Bill were fixed for hearing.

An 8-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Omar Atta Bandial will hear the petitions today.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Mazahir Naqvi, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Shahid Waheed are also part of the bench.

Four petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the bill to amend the power of automatic notice.

The petitions against the bill were filed by advocate Khawaja Tariq Rahim and others.
