Extension of order to stop recount in 6 union councils of Karachi

Islamabad: The High Court has extended the order to stop the recount in 6 Union Councils of Karachi till April 19.

Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan heard the request of Jamaat-e-Islami to stop the recount. On behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami, lawyers Qaiser Imam and Hasan Javed Shoorsh appeared before the court while on behalf of the Election Commission, Saad Hassan appeared before the court.

During the hearing, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan remarked that before ordering re-polling, the contestants also listen to the aspirants and notice the six candidates who were in the fray.

Lawyer Qaiser Imam said that in six union councils of Karachi, ballot bags had been opened and Form 12 was not provided, there was clear evidence of rigging.

Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan remarked that then the Election Commission should have gone to polling again because it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct transparent elections.

The court adjourned further hearing of the case till April 19 while issuing notices to the opposing candidates in the six union councils.
