Discussion on Miniature Art at Pakistani Embassy

The Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels organized a discussion on the country’s famous miniature art at the Chancery in collaboration with the Red Moon Art Incubator.

The event was part of the Pakistan Panorama series, featuring Pakistani artists, presenting a representative selection of Pakistan’s most exciting and emerging contemporary art to a Belgian audience.

The first exhibition of the series was held in December 2022 with young artist Meena Arham. While the upcoming week-long exhibition of Pakistani miniature paintings by a visiting Pakistani couple will continue in Brussels from March 22 to 26.

The keynote speakers of the panel included renowned Pakistani miniature artists Shibli Munir and Noreen Rashid. Red Moon Art Incubator founder and curator Elora Jolley hosted the discussion.

The panelists emphasized that Pakistan has produced many famous and world-renowned artists, such as Sadiqeen, Abdul Rahman Chaghatai, Ismail Gulji, Ustadullah Bakhsh, Anna Molka Ahmed, Zubaidah Agha etc.

Cultural influences and connections between art in the Flanders region of Belgium and the respective techniques and styles of various medieval art centers are identified.

Speaking on the occasion, Shibli Munir elaborated on the history of miniature paintings in Pakistan and the role of his ancestors in the development and evolution of miniature art in Pakistan.

In his comments, Noreen Rashid elaborated on the contemporary art scene in Pakistan. He also told the audience about the specially developed colors as well as the handmade art paper called Wasli.

Nazima Ellora Jolly thanked the Embassy of Pakistan for sponsoring the event. He said that such an event will act as a bridge between the people of both the countries.

Art lovers, civil society members, diplomats and media representatives participated in the event and welcomed this unique event wholeheartedly.
