The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says that Pakistani authorities have not consulted on petrol subsidies for low-income earners.
An IMF spokesperson has said that the IMF is discussing the details of providing cheap petrol from Pakistan.
The spokesperson said that the IMF is discussing the total cost, targets and operational details of the scheme.
On the other hand, the representative of the IMF in Pakistan, Esther Preez, has said that there has been considerable progress in the discussions to proceed with the ninth economic review.
The representative of the IMF said that discussions have been held with the Pakistani authorities regarding the policies in recent days.
Ester Price says that a staff-level agreement will be in place after some remaining points are met.
It should be noted that in view of rising petrol prices and inflation, the government has announced to bring a scheme related to petrol for the owners of vehicles less than 800 cc, under which motorcycle owners will be given a subsidy of up to 100 rupees on petrol.
