The Chinese President is expected to visit Russia next week

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping will leave for Russia next week on an official visit to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

According to international media, this decision of the Chinese President came after the invitation given by Putin and China’s offer of peace mediation. According to the Russian Presidency, Kremlin, important issues of further development of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China will be discussed in the talks, while several important bilateral documents will also be signed.

China and Russia partnered on a “no borders” manifesto at the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, weeks before the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, and the two sides have since moved to further strengthen their ties.

Trade between the two countries has increased since the invasion of Ukraine. China is the largest buyer of Russian oil, which is also an important source of income for Moscow. However, in recent weeks, China has sought to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.

On February 24, China issued a 12-point position paper on the Russia-Ukraine war, in which it called for a ceasefire and talks between the two sides. In a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart on Thursday, China’s foreign minister said that the year-long conflict is likely to spiral out of control. The Foreign Minister urged the Ukrainian counterpart to negotiate with Moscow for a political solution.
