The New Zealand Meteorological Department says that heavy rains have caused flooding in the city of Auckland, where a record 249 mm of rain has fallen in 24 hours.

The Department of Meteorology said that there is a possibility of more rains in Auckland for 5 days, a state of emergency has been implemented in the city.

According to media reports, domestic and international flights in Auckland have been grounded till Sunday, while rescue operations are underway to help those trapped in the flood waters.
