Being out and about and running out of charge on your mobile phone can be quite a hassle, but in this era of progress or fatha, this problem will soon be over, as scientists have developed a fabric that harnesses solar energy. Using it, will be able to charge these devices. This fabric has been developed by researchers at Nottingham Trent University in the UK. 1200 small photo voltaic cells i.e. solar panels have been installed in it. These cells can generate 400 milliwatts of energy from sunlight, which is enough to charge a smart watch or mobile phone and can be used to make clothes.
Textile researcher Dr. Theodore Hughes-Riley says the sample is an exciting glimpse into future e-textiles. Until now, few people have thought that textiles can also be used to generate electricity. “The material we created looks just like normal textiles,” he added.
It can also be slotted and machine washable. But beneath the surface lies a network of thousands of photovoltaic cells that harness sunlight to charge personal devices. This material is combined with solar cells 0.2 inches in length and 0.06 inches in width. Each solar cell is coated with a waterproof layer and connected together by strong and flexible wires.
