Washington: America transferred 2 brothers imprisoned in the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba to Pakistan.
The foreign news agency Reuters has said with reference to the Pentagon that 2 Pakistanis have been sent to their country from the Guantanamo Bay prison.
According to the Pentagon’s website, Abdul Rahim Rabbani was arrested in 2002 on charges of facilitating al-Qaeda, while his brother Muhammad Ahmad Ghulam Rabbani was accused of providing financial and travel assistance to a key al-Qaeda leader.
The Pentagon statement said that the release of these prisoners was done to gradually reduce the number of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay so that the prison could be permanently closed after the release of all prisoners.
The statement thanked Pakistan and said it appreciates the government of Pakistan and other partners for supporting US efforts to close Guantanamo Bay by reducing the number of prisoners.
There are now only 32 prisoners left at Guantanamo Bay, of which 18 have been released.
It should be remembered that after the attack on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001, the leader of the Republican Party and former US President George Bush built this prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
According to a report by CNN, 750 people from 40 countries were imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay after 2001.
Declared as extremely dangerous, these prisoners were imprisoned without any legal assistance and subjected to the most inhumane torture and treatment.
