Universities in Islamabad closed for security concerns

ISLAMABAD – Several universities in Islamabad were closed to avoid any unwanted catastrophe, TV channels reported on Monday, citing security threats behind the decision as per sources. The higher educational institutions include Quaid-e-Azam University, National Defense University, Air University, and Bahria University E-8 Campus.

Reportedly, it was decided to close the universities in the federal capital in view of the continued search operation of the security agencies in the suburbs of Islamabad. Students and staff were informed late at night about the indefinite closure, sources claimed.

According to latest reports, Bahria University Islamabad Campus (BUIC-E-8 Campus) has also postponed today’s scheduled exams, citing security reasons. The decision was communicated via SMS text messages sent by the Director of Administration, reads, “Due to security reasons, Monday’s (22 Jan 24) papers at BUIC E8 campus have been postponed. A new date will be intimated later. All Faculty and staff, except security and necessary admin staff, will work from home. H-11 campus will operate normally.”

However, no further specific details regarding the security situation are provided yet.
