Lahore: Another tax worth billions of rupees was imposed on consumers by Sui Northern Gas Company.
Monthly fixed charges in gas bills have been added to November bills. According to sources, the companies found an easy way out with Ogra to cover their losses and imposed another tax on consumers in the name of fixed charges worth billions of rupees per month.
Sources say that Ogra has quietly allowed the collection of fixed charges. According to the authorities, the protected consumers using 0.9 hectare of gas will pay fixed charges of Rs 400 per month. Non-protected gas users up to 1.5 hectares will pay an additional bill of Rs 1000 per month. Customers using more than this will pay an additional fixed amount of Rs 2 thousand per month.
According to Sui Gas officials, the user whose consumption will be zero will also be obliged to pay 400 rupees. These monthly fixed charges are added with the approval of the Government. Sources say that monthly fixed additional charges can be challenged by consumers only in the High Court. The monthly fixed tax will be applicable on 8 million consumers of the gas company. According to an estimate, 60 to 70 billion rupees are made annually.
