Islamabad: The Election Commission has reserved its decision on the case of ANP intra-party elections.
The case related to intra-party elections of Awami National Party was heard by a 5-member commission of Election Commission headed by the Chief Election Commissioner. ANP President Asfandyar Wali was present on the occasion while DG Political Finance Wing Masood Sherani briefed the commission regarding the ANP intra-party elections.
The lawyer said that we were told to give 6 months, if it could not be completed in 6 months, then elections should be held again. The Chief Election Commissioner said that why intra-party elections are not held, in such a situation you will not be allotted election symbol, you will not be able to participate in the election.
Election Commission officials said that the Awami National Party has sought adjournment for intra-party elections. Five years will be completed on May 1, 2024. Lawyer ANP said that the constitution says that there will be posts for 4 years, but in case of elections, the cabinet will continue to work. In 6 months there was confusion whether the elections were taking place or not.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that the way you are talking does not mean that there is no need for an election. What does it matter whether there will be a general election or not, what does your party election have to do with it? After 5 years, the commission has no authority.
Asfandyar Wali said that on this occasion it is requested that 6 months time be given. The Chief Election Commissioner said that your arguments have been heard, do not think that it has been extended. Later, the Election Commission reserved its decision on the ANP intra-party elections.
