Lahore High Court;  Guidelines for promotion of cycling at government level to tackle smog

Lahore: The Lahore High Court, while hearing the petitions filed for the remedy of smog, directed to take steps to promote cycling at the official level.

During the hearing, the court remarked that action should be taken under the PEDA Act against the officers who did not take steps regarding smog. Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court heard the petitions of Haroon Farooq and others.

During the hearing, the public prosecutor made recommendations to tackle the smog, which included recommendations for early closure of restaurants and closure of gyms, on which the court remarked that some of the recommendations were unnecessary. The gym was closed during Corona.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked that crop residues are burnt a lot in India. If the wind blows from India towards Pakistan, all the effects will come to Pakistan. The court also directed to ensure action against those who wash cars at home.

The court remarked that the Deputy Commissioners have done their part by conducting awareness walks about Zismog. Officers who do not take action regarding smog should be prosecuted under the Pedda Act. Judges in Britain still come on bicycles. Promote cycling, there will be positive effects if there are initiatives at the government level.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till November 22.
