In the last group match of the World Cup, Indian captain Rohit Sharma explained the reason behind bowling a record 9 bowlers.
In this match, India set a target of 411 runs to win against their comparatively weaker opponents Netherlands, in pursuit of which the Dutch team was all out for 250.
India had already qualified for the semi-finals before this match, but after the Netherlands’ opening batsman got out, they had strengthened their grip on the said match as well.
In such a situation, Indian captain Rohit Sharma bowled 9 bowlers, including himself.
Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Surya Kumar Yadav, Virat Kohli and Shibman Gill bowled for Netherlands during the batting.
It should be noted that this is the highest number of bowlers used by any team in an innings in ODI cricket.
Regarding his strategy, Rohit Sharma said, ‘When you have five bowlers, you also want to create those chances in the team.’
He also said that ‘today we had 9 options, that’s important because it was a match where we could try to do things like that.’
