Massachusetts: A recent study shows that a light and cheerful atmosphere in the workplace can improve the heart health of employees.
In the American Journal of Public Health, researchers presented the results of a study showing that older employees’ heart health risk factors were significantly reduced when their office implemented policies to reduce work-family conflict. to arrange.
The results also found that the health of older people in such work environments mirrored the well-being of people 5 to 10 years younger when a better workplace environment provided them with better flexibility and support.
Lisa Berkman, director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, said the study demonstrates that the workplace environment is one of the most important social determinants of health.
“When workplace stressors and work-family conflict were reduced, we found a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease among more vulnerable employees and reduced productivity,” Lisa added in a Harvard news release. There were no adverse effects.
The findings are particularly consequential for low- and middle-wage workers who traditionally have little control over their schedules and job demands and are vulnerable to inequality, she added.
