In the context of increasing cases of seasonal influenza/flu in Pakistan, the advisory of the National Institute of Health Islamabad has said that cases of influenza have increased across the country.
According to federal authorities, more than 33,000 cases of ILI or influenza-like illness were reported last week. The highest number of influenza cases were reported from Sindh last week.
The National Institute of Health, Islamabad further said that last week, 16,900 influenza cases were reported in Sindh, while more than 5,000 cases were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 7433 cases were reported in Balochistan last week, 2648 cases were reported in Azad Kashmir.
According to federal authorities, more than 18,000 cases of acute lower respiratory infection in children under 5 years of age were also reported last week.
According to the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, about 4,000 cases of severe lung infection were reported in the elderly.
He said that there is a severe shortage of influenza vaccine in Pakistan at present. Due to a price dispute, the two multinational companies that manufacture the influenza vaccine have not ordered the vaccine.
