Horror movies may be good for health, experts say

Edinburgh: Experts have claimed that scary movies can be beneficial for health.

According to a study, Hollywood movies like “The Exorcist” or “The Nun” and other scary movies cause the release of chemicals in the brain that are known to reduce depression.

According to Dr. Kirsten Knowles, a neuropsychologist at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, scary movies help produce endorphins and dopamine, which are associated with feelings of happiness and stress relief.

He said that research has shown that endorphins released by watching scary movies can improve pain tolerance.

He explained that in response to fear and curiosity, our body increases production of adrenaline hormones that activate the body’s energy sources, including an increased heart rate and concentration, end of film. When stress is relieved, this state changes to pleasure, for example skydiving, which is both terrifying and enjoyable.

According to psychologists, endorphins are the hormones that the body makes to make us feel happy, the brain makes these hormones during eating and exercise as well as pain and stress.
