New Zealand’s defeat against Australia has raised alarm bells for Pakistan, but hopes of reaching the semi-finals remain intact.
There was no difference in the positions of the teams in the points table but Australia managed to add 2 more points after this win which is not encouraging for the green shirts.
If Australia manage to win two more of their three matches, Pakistan is likely to crash out of the event.
On the table, New Zealand is still at the third position with 8 points and Australia is at the fourth position with 8 points, while Pakistan with 4 points needs the prayers of the nation apart from winning all three matches.
Pakistan’s hopes are now tied to defeats in New Zealand, with New Zealand facing South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Even in case of defeat in all these matches, Pakistan can reach the final four.
Pakistan also has three matches left in the event, the national team has to play against Bangladesh, New Zealand and England.
By winning all three matches, Pakistan will get 10 points, if New Zealand loses all the matches, it will have 8 points.
Pakistan’s path will be smoother if Sri Lanka beat New Zealand and fail in their remaining matches.
