Gautam Gambhir, the former opener of the Indian cricket team and a member of the commentary panel of the current World Cup, took the Indian spectators to task for their biased behavior towards the Pakistani team in Ahmedabad.

Gautam Gambhir has written in his column in Khaleej newspaper Khaleej Times that although our team India has won 3 out of 3 matches, but I don’t think we have won the hearts of Indian cricket team supporters.

He wrote that our turnout at the ground during matches other than the Indian team has been extremely low which makes me wonder if we really love the game or are just obsessed with Indian superstars.

Gautam Gambhir also criticized the behavior of Indian fans towards the opposing teams and wrote that during the first match between India and Afghanistan in Delhi, Naveen-ul-Haq was abused by the spectators and constantly repeated Kohli-Kohli in front of him because the IPL I had an argument between the two, then later we abused Babar Azam at the toss in Ahmedabad while shouting unnecessary slogans at the outgoing Pakistani batsmen.

He wrote that it is unimaginable that a society which gave the world the concept of ‘the whole world is one family’ could be so inconsistent with this attitude.

Addressing his nation, Gautam Gambhir wrote that if we want to win the bid for the 2036 Olympic Games, we will have to adopt a more neutral attitude.

He mentioned that Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur also criticized saying that it does not seem like an ICC event.

Gautam Gambhir further wrote that I was commenting there in Ahmedabad and was not at all proud to see such biased behavior.

He also wrote that I am in favor of competition in sports and supporting any team but that does not give us license to abuse and humiliate the opposing team.
