Lahore: A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court to abolish the law of lifelong disqualification in the Election Act.
Citizen Mashkoor Hussain filed an application in the Lahore High Court through the mediation of Nadeem Sarwar Advocate, in which the Election Commission, Federal Government and other related institutions have been made parties.
The petitioner contended that the period of disqualification has been extended by amending the Election Commission Act, while the Supreme Court has already interpreted Article 62F-1 of the Constitution.
It has been argued in the petition that amending the law after the interpretation of the Supreme Court is a violation of Section 3 of Article 175 of the Constitution, so the court should declare the amendment of the Election Act null and void.
