Pakistani climbers miss 14th summit after accident on Sheshapangma peak in China, Chinese authorities close mountain to climbing.
4 climbers were killed by an avalanche on Sheshapangma 2 days ago, Sarbaz Khan and Naila Kayani were 400 meters from the top at the time of the accident.
After the accident Sarbaz and Naila had reached the base camp immediately, Shahroz Kashif had to summit the next day, the program was cancelled.
After the accident, the Chinese authorities closed the mountain for climbing, Shahruz Kashif has said that the sorrow of not summiting Shishapangma is certainly greater, but the sorrow of losing friends in the accident is greater.
Naila Kayani said that there were 2 incidents of landslides on Sheshapangma on October 7, there was no justification for our summit after the death of our colleagues.
After the cancellation of the summit, Shahruz Kashif and Sarbaz Khan missed out on potential records, by climbing Sheshapangma, Sarbaz would have become the first Pakistani to climb all 14 peaks of 8,000 meters.
By climbing this mountain, Shahroz Kashif would have become the youngest mountaineer to climb 14 ‘Eight Thousanders’.
