Traffickers and their patrons are being rounded up, Director Customs Intelligence Lahore
Lahore: Customs Intelligence Lahore conducted a grand operation against smugglers and seized 9 trucks of smuggled cigarettes, chalia and shisha flavors worth 22 crore rupees.
With the help of the police and other agencies, raids were conducted on places full of smuggling goods and considered safe for smugglers in Lahore. The operations were carried out in the vicinity of Shah Alam Market, Pan Mandi and Railway Station. During the operation, the largest quantity of smuggled cigarettes in the history of Lahore was seized.
On the instructions of Director General of Customs Intelligence, Chaudhry Faiz Ahmed Chadharki, Lahore Directorate conducted a grand operation against smugglers. The operations against the smugglers were conducted under the supervision of Additional Director Rizwan Bashir Keller. Raids were conducted at various places in the densely populated areas of the provincial capital, Shah Alam Market, Pan Mandi, Railway Station, Nolkha and its surroundings, in which the police and law enforcers. Institutions supported Customs Intelligence.
During the raids, resistance was also put up by the smugglers, which was foiled by the police. In this regard, Haris Ansari, Director of Customs Intelligence, Lahore while talking to “Express” said that after the decisions of the Apex Committee, a policy of zero tolerance against smugglers has been adopted. No matter how effective the smuggling ring is, action will be taken against it without discrimination.
He said that by taking action against smugglers in a big city like Lahore, the supply line of these goods to smaller cities can be ended. Additional Director of Customs Intelligence, Lahore, Chaudhry Rizwan Bashir Claire, while talking to “Express”, said that the usual operations against smugglers are continuing, but these operations have been carried out in areas where in the case of normal operations, there is a breach of peace. It is feared.
He said that intelligence information was collected for 2 weeks before conducting the operation. By exchanging this information with various institutions, especially DIG Operations Lahore Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, a fool proof operation was planned. Smugglers operate in the form of gangs in Shah Alam and Pan Mandi. Therefore, a heavy police force and a large contingent of Customs Intelligence participated in this operation, in which for the first time in the history of Lahore, 9 truckloads of smuggled cigarettes and chalia were seized.
Chaudhry Rizwan Bashir Claire said that instead of catching ordinary shopkeepers and salesmen, we are encircling the smugglers and their patrons. In this regard, major arrests will be made in the next few days. Legal proceedings have been started by registering a case against the smugglers.
It should be noted that on the instructions of the federal government, further actions are being taken against smuggling. With strong coordination among law enforcement agencies, various Directorates of Customs across the country are taking action against smugglers. During these operations, raids are also being conducted at such places which were earlier considered to be the safe havens of smugglers and smuggled goods.
