The Athletics Federation of Pakistan has stopped two female athletes Sahib Isra and Urooj Karan from leaving for China to participate in the Asian Games on the basis of non-receipt of dope test results.
Sahib Isra was supposed to participate in the 400 meters and Arooj Kiran in the 100 meters in the Asian Games, but now their participation in the events has become uncertain. Both were supposed to leave Islamabad on Tuesday evening, but they have been stopped from leaving.
Athletics Federation of Pakistan says that the departure of both will be after the results of the dope test, it is hoped that the results will come before the event.
Three weeks ago, the Pakistan Sports Board conducted dope tests of 33 players, including Sahib Isra and Arooj Kiran.
Sources say that both have been stopped on the recommendation of the Anti-Doping Agency of Pakistan (ADOP), however ADOP’s Dr. Karat has denied any such recommendation.
Athletes Sahib Isra and Arooj Kiran have expressed their disappointment over the situation.
In a special video statement sent to Geo News, Sahib Isra said that there is no place in the world where a player is prevented from participating in the event while waiting for the result.
