Pakistan’s men’s team made a winning start in the squash event of the Asian Games, but the performance of the women’s team was disappointing.
In the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the men’s team won both the group matches while the women’s team faced defeat in both.
Men’s team beat Qatar 2-1 in the first match, Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman won their respective matches against Qatar but Asim Khan lost.
Nasir Iqbal beat Saleem Mulki 5-11, 5-11 and 6-11, while Noor Zaman’s win against Syed Amjad was 10-12, 7-11 and 9-11. Asim Khan was defeated by Abdullah Al Tamimi three to one.
In the second match of men’s team group A, Pakistan beat Nepal by 3-0. Pakistan’s Noor Zaman, Asim Khan and Nasir Iqbal won easily against Nepal.
Nasir Iqbal defeated Aamir Bhalon, Asim Khan defeated Amrit Thapa and Noor Zaman defeated Arhabat Keshar.
In the women’s team event, Pakistan were defeated in both group matches, in women’s group B, Pakistan were defeated first by India and then by Malaysia.
