Pakistan has had a disappointing start in the swimming events at the Asian Games, while in Taekwondo, Naila reached the quarter-finals and lost.
In swimming, Pakistan’s Aman Siddiqui and Ahmed Durrani failed to qualify for the next round, the individual freestyle and individual medley heats where Pakistani swimmers did not perform well.
In the men’s 200m individual medley, Ahmed Ali Durrani’s timing was 2 minutes 15.10 seconds, he set a new national record but failed to make it to the next round.
Earlier, Pakistan’s record in 200m individual medley was 2 minutes 16.26 seconds.
Ahmed finished 12 seconds behind the last swimmer to qualify and 19th out of 27 overall, while another Pakistani athlete, Aman Siddiqui, finished 22nd with a time of 2 minutes 18.65 seconds.
In the 100m individual freestyle, Pakistan’s Ahmed Durrani finished 33rd and Aman Siddiqui 37th in the heats.
Also, GM Bashir finished eighth on the first day of the qualifying round of the 25m rapid fire shooting competition at the Asian Games.
Ghulam Mustafa Bashir scored 282 points with 8 center of target on the first day, he took 98 points in 8 seconds, 97 points in 6 seconds and 87 points in 4 seconds.
The second round of the qualifying phase will be played on Monday and GM Bashir will have to finish in the top 6 to reach the finals.
On the other hand, in the women’s 10m air rifle, Mehek Fatima could not make it to the next round, Mehek finished 40th in the qualifying phase.
Also, in the quarterfinals of the taekwondo competition, Naila was defeated by a Japanese athlete, Yoko Niwa scored 104.6 points against Naila’s 100.0 points.
