Pakistan’s tennis star and national team captain in Davis Cup, Easam-ul-Haq, has said that other sports should get the same recognition as cricket. The nation is sad because of cricket but will try to give happiness through tennis.
In a conversation with Geo News, Aisam-ul-Haq said that the preparation for the Davis Cup is complete, Pakistan has the best team, the conditions will be difficult in the event due to heat and humidity.
He said that the ranking of Indonesia is better than Pakistan, they will try to win, there is no Pakistani player in the international ranking except me.
Easam-ul-Haq added that other teams that came to Pakistan in the past were also better than Pakistan, they play with passion for the country, that’s why they got respect.
The Pakistani tennis star also said that Pakistan has a good record in its home soil, with only Uzbekistan and Japan losing to Pakistan in ties in the last 15 years. Pakistan defeated Korea, Thailand, Lithuania, Slovenia.
Easam-ul-Haq said that number two Shoaib Khan at the national level is a talented young player, he is learning a lot by playing with seniors.
He said that I am teaching tennis to the youth in collaboration with the Pakistan Tennis Federation, in a few years, players of Grand Slam level will start to meet in Pakistan.
The national tennis star said that international tennis has returned to Pakistan after a 10-year ban, the tennis federation is doing a great job, the sport needs more funding.
He said that mine and Aqeel Khan’s favorite court is grass, Islamabad used to have clay and hard courts, now there is also grass court.
Aisam-ul-Haq said that there are many people who watch cricket but players in other sports are also trying to make a name, the role of media is important, athletics of other sports should also be encouraged.
He said that the way cricket is seen, the same way other sports should be respected, Pakistan should be brought back to Group 1 by defeating Indonesia.
The national tennis star said that my injuries have been enough this year, for the first time in my career I have dropped from the top 100 ranking, I am trying to get back in the ranking.
He said that this will be my last participation in the Asian Games, I will try to bring a medal for the country, the goal is to represent Pakistan in the Grand Slam next year.
