A recent study conducted in America revealed that 8 healthy habits adopted in middle age can extend your life span by 24 years.
These habits include not smoking, avoiding drugs, being physically active, eating well, getting enough sleep, having positive social interactions with others, and better managing stress.
This important research was conducted through a survey of 720,000 veterans in the United States, and their medical records were also analyzed.
The life spans of the groups involved were tracked to see how long each of them lived.
Research has shown that women who adopt all eight of these habits by the age of 40 can live an average of 21 years longer than women who do not adopt any of these habits.
By age 40, men who adopt these habits can live up to 24 years longer than men who don’t.
The veterans who were studied ranged in age from 40 to 99 and were followed up during the study to determine who died and when.
The study was conducted at the Carl Illinois College of Medicine in the US state of Illinois and was led by Dr. Xuan Mai Nguyen. “We were surprised to see the results that came out, how much positive impact people had on making one, two, three or all of these habits a lifestyle,” he says.
