Islamabad: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has decided to suspend the status of Sweden’s special envoy.

In this regard OIC General Secretariat has informed the Government of Sweden of the decision that his Special Envoy status is being terminated.

An extraordinary session of the OIC’s Executive Committee recommended the termination of Sweden’s special envoy status. In the meeting, the OIC welcomed the protest by some member states against the repeated attacks on Islamic holy places.

The Secretary General of the OIC said that OIC member countries should make independent decisions, express their position by condemning the attacks on the sanctity of the Holy Quran and Islamic symbols by the Swedish authorities, and reject such humiliating actions by the states under the pretext of freedom of expression.
