Damuth Karunaratne, the captain of Sri Lanka’s Test team, has given an indication of leaving the captaincy, he has again applied to the selection committee in this regard.
Damuth Karunaratne said in the application that I don’t want to captain the cricket team anymore, I had requested to leave the captaincy earlier but the board asked to continue the captaincy.
The Sri Lankan captain further said that after the series against Pakistan, he submitted his request to the board to withdraw from the captaincy.
He also said that I want to focus fully on my batting, I will support the team as much as possible with my batting.
Damuth Karunaratne said that there are many players in the team who are suitable for the post of captain, but the decision to make the captain will be mine and not the selection committee’s.
“Our next series is in February, so there is still plenty of time to think about a new captain,” he said.
Karunaratne had earlier requested to step down from the captaincy after the series against Ireland.
Damuth Karunaratne has captained the Sri Lankan team in 29 Test matches.
