Lahore: In the case of alleged corruption of 20 billion in the free flour scheme in Punjab, NAB has speeded up the inquiry after obtaining the records.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has obtained records from Flour Mills, DC, Information Technology Board and Food Department in free flour scheme inquiry in Punjab, after which the NAB investigation team has intensified the examination of records of free flour scheme.
According to NAB sources, the agency will identify irregularities in the free flour scheme through the records obtained. The NAB inquiry has revealed technical and administrative lapses in the free flour scheme. Due to non-reconciliation of data between the district administration and flour mills, more than 50 lakh bags of flour are missing. Only 4 crore 30 lakh 60 thousand bags have been reconciled.
NAB is facing difficulties in the investigation due to non-availability of accurate data. NAB has also obtained records of the number and distribution of wheat, flour bags issued to flour mills. The record of the free flour scheme has been provided by the Auditor General to NAB, after which NAB has decided to conduct random verification of the people who have received free flour.
Sources say that according to PITB’s free flour distribution data, free flour recipients will be selected and SMS will be sent to them.
