The world football organization FIFA, while supporting the normalization committee headed by Haroon Malik, has informed the government of Pakistan that FIFA has extended this committee till March 15, 2024.
The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination sent a letter to FIFA on 19 June 2023. The letter addressed to FIFA President Gianni Infantino was signed by the Ministry’s Joint Secretary Ehsanullah.
It was written in the letter that the FIFA Normalization Committee could not hold an election in 4 years. The letter recommended removing Haroon Malik and installing a focal person.
FIFA responded to this letter on July 17. The response letter was sent by FIFA jointly with the AFC.
In the letter, expressing support for Haroon Malik, it is written that although the normalization committee was implemented in Pakistan in 2019, the current committee under the chairmanship of Haroon Malik has been in a position to work uninterruptedly since June last year.
The letter informed the government that in the past, due to the suspension from Covid and FIFA, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalization Committee could not do its work, but since the suspension was lifted last year, the normalization committee has done a lot of work. According to the FIFA letter, the government of Pakistan has been told that the process of scrutiny is a big challenge to conduct the election in a transparent manner under the PFF constitution.
The letter also informed the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Co-ordination to extend the tenure of the PFF Normalization Committee till March 2024.
FIFA has also offered the government of Pakistan a quadrilateral meeting in Dubai in September, which will be attended by FIFA, AFC, PFF Normalization Committee and government representatives to discuss the post-election situation including the current situation of PFF. will be discussed.
