The Jail Reforms Committee of the Punjab Bar Council has met the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi.
In the meeting, proposals were discussed with the Caretaker Chief Minister to provide basic facilities to the prisoners in the jails.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said that he would welcome practical suggestions regarding prisons.
While giving a briefing to the Prison Reforms Committee, it was said that the food budget of the prisoners in the prison has been increased and the duration of phone conversation with the families has been increased to 300 minutes per month.
It has been said in the briefing that the management of prison hospitals is being handed over to the Health Department, bakery and utility stores are being built for the inmates in the prison.
In the briefing to the Jail Reforms Committee, it was also informed that recruitment on vacant posts is being sanctioned to overcome the shortage of jail staff.
The Punjab Bar Council delegation has offered to provide free legal aid to the prisoners.
Chairman Committee Imran Akram presented the recommendations regarding jail reforms to the Caretaker Chief Minister.
