Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) to initiate the process after fulfilling the mandatory requirements for its accreditation program to be eligible for World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) recognition. WFME has applied.
After the enactment of the PMDC Act 2022, the Council took up the issue of WFME recognition process on a priority basis. President PM&DC Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj formed the WFME Accreditation Cell which included experts from across Pakistan and held several meetings to meet all the requirements of the WFME application.
Additionally, PM&DC conducted various workshops across the country for the same purpose. Around 124 colleges participated in the workshop. For the WFME accreditation process, a panel of experts from across the country was onboarded and their valuable feedback was sought.
In the first phase, WFME approved PM&DC’s application as an accrediting body and its accreditation program after reviewing PM&DC’s application for WFME recognition. Is.
PM&DC and WFME will now coordinate to schedule visits by WFME’s international analysts to sites in Pakistan to inspect PM&DC and its entire regulatory system. will visit. The team will review the entire accreditation process of medical colleges by PM&DC.
The entire process, including physical site assessment and inspection, is expected to be completed within 12 months before 2024. WFME’s recognition and its accreditation program will allow all graduates of these PM&DC-licensed colleges to train and work in the US and internationally without restriction.
President PM&DC said that the council is striving to meet the mandatory requirements and develop standards as per international best practices not only WFME standards and ensure that medical Education should be continuously improved and internationally recognized standards should be achieved.
He said that it is to be ensured that Pakistan’s medical education and doctors are recognized internationally. Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj added that this is a great achievement after continuous efforts of PM&DC.
