Geneva: The World Health Organization has warned that an artificial sweetener, especially in black soft drinks, is actually a carcinogenic chemical.
An artificial sweetener called aspartame is added to many products, including Diet Coke and Mars Extra chewing gum. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it was listed as a ‘probably carcinogenic’ chemical in July. This term is used for ingredients that can cause cancer.
The study was conducted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a subsidiary of the World Health Organization.
It should be noted that IARC has taken this decision after discussions with a panel consisting of various experts. In this context, published research has also been reviewed and has included aspartame as a carcinogenic sweetener.
