The American public is about to experience the taste and flavor of lab-grown chicken.
According to international media reports, the US Department of Agriculture has given permission to two companies to start producing meat in the laboratory.
The meat, which is not made from an animal in a laboratory, but from its cells, will take some time to reach stores, but it can be tasted at select restaurants first.
Lab-grown meat, also known as cultured meat, is produced using animal cells by infusing nutrients into large-scale bioreactors.
After the meat is ready, the companies collect it and move it to the processing line.
To produce meat in the laboratory, cells are collected from a fertilized hen’s egg and then stored in a cell bank that can be used for at least 10 years, a company says.
According to another company, this lab-grown meat will taste exactly like meat obtained from chicken.
