Top police officer suspended for running fake currency

Lahore: SP Lahore Bilal Qayyum involved in the case of running fake currency notes has been suspended.

The Establishment Division has issued orders to initially suspend SP Bilal Qayyum, an officer of Police Service of Pakistan Grade 18 and awaiting appointment in CPO Lahore office, for 120 days and initiate departmental action.

According to sources, a person named Aamir Iqbal was caught depositing fake notes of Rs 49 lakh 95 thousand in Muslim Commercial Bank Emporial Mall on June 3, 2023. On investigation by FIA, Aamir Iqbal revealed that this money was given to him by SP Bilal Qayyum, who was awaiting appointment in CPO office Lahore, which was confirmed by CCTV footage. In the footage, Bilal Qayyum’s car was seen leaving.

On the order of the concerned court, FIA detained Bilal Qayyum, but Bilal Qayyum submitted a pre-arrest bail order by Bahawalpur Bench of Lahore High Court, after which FIA released Bilal Qayyum.
