The administrative control of the important historical places of Lahore is entrusted to the Walled City of Lahore Authority

Lahore: Department of Tourism and Archeology Punjab has handed over the administrative control of the important historical places of Lahore from the Department of Archeology to the Walled City of Lahore Authority on the instructions of the Caretaker Government.

The Caretaker Government of Punjab had recently decided that the important historical places of Lahore, including Jahangir’s Tomb, Noor Jahan’s Tomb, Asif Jah’s Tomb, Akbari Sarai, Shalamar Bagh, Qutbuddin Aibak’s Tomb and Anarkali Tomb, should be better conserved and To be handed over to the Walled City of Lahore Authority for maintenance.

In the light of this decision, the administrative control of these historical places has been handed over to the Walled City of Lahore Authority.

Against this decision of the caretaker government, the employees of Punjab Archeology have filed a writ in the Lahore High Court, in which the position has been taken that the caretaker government does not have the authority to make such administrative decisions, however, there is no decision in this case yet. The decision has not come.

In this regard, Secretary Tourism and Archeology Punjab Zaheer Hassan told Express News that “This decision has been taken on the instructions of the caretaker government and the case is in the Lahore High Court in this regard, if the court decides against this initiative.” So these sites will be handed back to Punjab Archaeology. He said whatever decision the court takes will be implemented.

The notification sent by Secretary Tourism and Archeology to DG Archeology has instructed him to withdraw his staff from all these places. Before this, the management of historic Shalamar Bagh, Wazir Khan Mosque, historical gates of Lahore is already with the City of Lahore Authority.
