In the case related to the May 14 elections in Punjab, the caretaker government of Punjab has given its response Submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The reply was submitted in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Chief Secretary Punjab.
The caretaker Punjab government has opposed the immediate elections in the province and in its submitted reply has said that the Supreme Court has no authority to give the date of the election.
In the submitted reply, the Punjab government has said that the authority to give the date of the election belongs to other institutions of the state.
In the reply submitted by the caretaker Punjab government in the Supreme Court, it has been said that under Article 218, it is the power of the Election Commission to conduct a fair and transparent election, and the power to change the election program is also of the Election Commission.
In the reply submitted by the caretaker Punjab government, it has said that in view of the division of powers, the Supreme Court did not give a date for the election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The response submitted in the Supreme Court said that the security situation in the province has changed after the May 9 incident, damage to civil-military property, violent protests and demonstrations after the arrest of Imran Khan.
In the response submitted by the caretaker Punjab government, it says that 162 police personnel were injured and 97 police vehicles were burnt in the protests against the arrest of Imran Khan.
In the reply submitted to the Supreme Court, the Punjab government has said that 554,000 security personnel will be required for the elections in Punjab, but if the elections are held, only 77,000 personnel are available.
