Changes in ICC Playing Conditions

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made changes in the playing conditions. The changes in the playing conditions were made after the Chief Executives Committee meeting.

In international cricket, the soft signal given by Empire during the review has been abolished.

The abolition of the soft signal will come into effect from the Test match between England and Ireland from June 1.

Now the umpire will not give a soft signal during the TV umpire’s review. The on-field umpire will consult with the TV umpire before making a decision.

Helmet protection has been made mandatory for players in high-risk injury positions in international cricket.

Batters will have to wear a helmet while facing fast bowlers while wicket keeper will have to wear a helmet when standing near the stumps.

Similarly, it will be mandatory for the fielder standing near the batters to wear a helmet.

A run scored after the ball hits the stumps on a free hit will now count as a regular run. This will be counted in the run-by.

Chairman ICC Cricket Committee Saru Ganguly said that the safety of the players is very important for us.

He said that the committee has unanimously decided that wearing of helmets should be made mandatory at several places.

He said that there was a consultation on the abolition of soft signal in the last committee meeting as well, the committee has come to the conclusion that soft signal was unnecessary.
