Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new law on treason, according to which traitors will now be punished with life imprisonment.
According to global media reports, Putin has signed amendments to the Criminal Code that toughen penalties for treason, terrorism and aiding international organizations of which Russia is not a member.
Under the new criminal code, taking into account the seriousness of treason, the Russian citizen will face life imprisonment. In addition, the prosecution can request a sentence of up to 20 years in terrorism cases, while the sentence for increasing manpower for terrorism has been increased to 7 years in prison.
In addition, cooperation in the work of international organizations (such as the International Criminal Court) or the implementation of its decisions can lead to imprisonment for up to 5 years.
