Lahore: Senior jurist and Pakistan People’s Party leader Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the elections will be held in ninety days because this is the final decision of the Supreme Court.
Addressing the lawyers’ round table conference, Aitzaz Ahsan said that all institutions must implement the final decision of the Supreme Court because all institutions are bound by this order. He said that the issue of holding the election has been confused with the formation of the bench.
Leader of Pakistan People’s Party and senior jurist Latif Khosa clarified that everyone is united for the supremacy of the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary, the current Pakistan cannot be the Pakistan of Quaid-i-Azam. Addressing the conference, senior lawyers said that disobeying the decision of the Supreme Court will not work.
President of the Supreme Court Bar Abid Zuberi said that all institutions are bound to follow the constitution, the constitution says that if elections are to be held in 90 days, that is all. Senior jurist Hamid Khan while addressing the conference said that there is no mention in the constitution that elections should be held simultaneously in the entire country.
In the joint declaration issued at the end of the round table conference, the lawyers also demanded the holding of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the light of the court order.
Renowned constitutional and legal experts participated in the round table conference organized under the name “Sanctification of the Constitution and Independence of the Judiciary”. Representatives of civil society and political parties and prominent journalists were also invited to the round table conference. The conference was led by Latif Khosa while the hosting duties were done by Aitzaz Ahsan and Tariq Rahim.
