Riyadh: The production of mangoes in Saudi Arabia has increased significantly, the annual production reached 88 thousand tons.
According to Arab News, the production of mangoes in Saudi Arabia has increased to 60%. Under Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is cultivating mangoes on an area of 6,880 hectares.
The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture is working diligently to increase mango production, food security and production rates, the ministry says that the production of seasonal fruits like mangoes is bringing economic benefits to the kingdom.
It should be noted that the mango crop is cultivated in many regions of Saudi Arabia, the mango season is from April to August and more than 20 varieties of mangoes are produced, including Awish, Skri and Tommy Atkins.
According to the Ministry of Environment, in 2005, there were two and a half million mango trees in Saudi Arabia, from which the annual production of mangoes was up to 18 thousand tons. .
In order to increase the production and marketing of fruits, fish, livestock and Arabic coffee in Saudi Arabia, Saudi King Salman inaugurated the ‘Sustainable Agriculture Rural Development Program’ in 2019.
