Lahore High Court has ordered to stop advertising of free flour on media in Punjab province. The court remarked that the government put people on the flour truck by ending the Ramadan Bazaar, the caretaker government will be caught for using the money approved for the Ramadan Bazaar in the distribution of flour.
The court asked for the details of the provision of money for Ramadan subsidy and distribution of flour, the court remarked that it should be informed from what purpose the money is coming for the purchase of flour, the court also asked for the mechanism made for the distribution of flour.
In the Lahore High Court, a hearing was held on the application to stop the advertisement of free flour distribution and to ask for a procedure. And people are being humiliated by distributing flour without making a mechanism.
The court ordered the Punjab Finance Secretary to submit the signed certified details on the distribution of free flour and issued notices to the parties on the petition against the method of distribution of flour and the deaths in Punjab.
The court remarked that the distribution of flour to the deserving is their basic right and not a favor to anyone, taking care of people’s self-respect is an Islamic teaching which cannot be ignored, it was better to follow Hazrat Umar. The flour was delivered to the doorstep.
The court said that the amount of Ramadan bazaar or subsidy is approved in the budget, the supervisory government will be caught if the money approved in the budget is used in the distribution of flour, the court declared that the approved money cannot be used by the government in any other way. This is a caretaker government. It would be better if basic food and drink were subsidized to everyone on equal basis.
The court remarked that the caretaker government had abolished the Ramadan bazaar and distributed the subsidy money in flour, a mechanism by which people were driven onto trucks for flour.
The petitioner’s counsel said that the public has been kept in agony, the quality of flour supplied by the Punjab government is very poor, the Punjab government could not make the best arrangements for the distribution of flour, wrong policy and method of the government. Deaths occurred due to cars, the wheat supplied to flour mills for free flour supply is substandard, the court is requested to take notice of substandard flour supply and deaths.
